Ilha de Moçambique: People & Culture

Perched on a coral island in the northern part of Mozambique, Ilha de Moçambique lies within the Muslim Swahili coastal sphere of influence that stretches north to include Comoros, Zanzibar and the coastal regions of Tanzania and Kenya.  Its food, however, is a delightful mix of African ingredients, Indian curry and the Malay-Indonesian affection for spices and coconut milk.  I love the prawn and mutton curries here, not to mention the coconut rice that so resembles the nasi lemak of Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
