Sri Lanka: The Ancient City of Polonnaruwa

On day 2, we also visited the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  This was the second ancient capital of Sri Lanka and is an excellent example of mediaeval Sri Lankan artistic and architectural glory.  On the way back to our hotel, we passed by herds of wild elephants.  For a densely populated country with 20 million people, Sri Lanka has an incredible number of wild elephants and wild creatures.
