Dear All,
At Oriental Hotel in Hargeisa, capital of Somaliland. SO far so good. People are VERY friendly here and very glad that I am here as a tourist. In the last few hours since arrival, a NGO guy wants to arrange a press interview of me, people on the streets bought me tea, and the hotel owner, who is an American citizen born here, had a long chat with me.
Everyone here wants to tell the world about this small peaceful nation, about how different it is from Somalia, from which it broke away in 1991, and that Somaliland desparately wants international recognition. I will write more.
I will be in Somaliland till Monday, when I fly to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Wee Cheng
