| A city of mixed Javanese, Chinese and Dutch heritage. The old Dutch city is full of graceful European colonial civic buildings complete with Dutch canals and waterworks installations. Not too far away is Chinatown where old temples up to 600 years old stand every 100 meters or so. In the wide open spaces of new Semarang, gigantic shopping malls dominate with billboards proclaiming the new gods of the millennium – Carrefour, KFC, MacDonald's, etc. |
