Isn't it natural for one not to notice the treasures that lie around one's backyard? I have never thought much of the enormous rain trees (Samanea saman) and the lush green ferns that grow on the branches of these trees, that is, until I saw my visiting Russian friends gawking at them. Now I look at them with a different light - they are indeed magnificent and beautiful gifts from Mother Nature.
After all, one shouldn't forget that there are more varieties of trees in the rich tropical gardens that is urban Singapore, than in all North America.
