Taoism as a symbol of indigenous Chinese Culture in Singapore

While Buddhism and Christianity religions link believers with an extended world of fellow believers and traditions from lands much further away, Taoist rituals call for rituals and customs closer to the farming roots of rural China.  In fact, some argue that Taoism equate traditional Chinese culture in the south of China.

Indeed, the way Taoism is practiced in Singapore is somewhat different from that in northern and central China.  Local folk Taoism here, with the active involvement of spirit mediums, binds us to the cultural traditions of the Fujian/Hokkien cultural zone, which includes Fujian province of China, Taiwan and other parts of the Fujian Diaspora outside China.
