Taipei is a vibrant city. There are some of us who have been puzzled by the messy politics, but the Taiwanese say - just ignore the nonsense and noise from local TV news. Turned it off and you will find a wonderful society that functions perfectly...almost.
Speaking to my Taiwanese friends, I found a society that respect democracy and diversity of viewpoints and affiliations. A much more tolerant society than any others in Asia. This is something we can learn from Taiwan, perhaps minus the very bitter and ungraceful politics that have characterised the country's deep political divide in recent decades.
