Random Kinmen

Kinmen may be a small island with less than 100,000 people, but it was once a major international hotspot.  In 1947, the Kuomintang held on to this island at the harbour of Xiamen, Fujian even though the Communists have conquered the entire Mainland.  Bitter battles were fought but the Communists could not capture the island.  Both sides began a massive 20+ year artillery bombardment war that lasted till 1967.  At various occasions, WWIII between USA and China almost broke out here.

Today it is a sleepy island that attracts tourists from Mainland China, Taiwan and the odd war tourists like me.
